So Josh survived going on his Klondike camp out. Who in the world came up with the crazy idea of sleeping in ice caves over night and having snow activities as part of a scouting requirement?? I had to go to Goodwill and get some snow clothes for him. We hit the jackpot, as in one stop,, we got snow boots, snow pants, wool socks, and long johns, and it didn't break my budget. Josh was excited to go with all his friends, as several boys have turned 12 in the last couple of months. He didn't like all the long walking to the different activities, like snowshoeing, and ice craving, but he had a good time, basically. The second scouting thing he did, was to go night skiing up at Bogus Basin. The good thing is that he already had all the proper snow clothes for this activity. And that was really a good thing, since he mentioned Thursday night at dinner that he was going skiing with his scout troop tomorrow night. He didn't really enjoy skiing. He had a problem with the ski boot rubbing/scratching against his ankle bone, which was very painful he said. And the ski's were so heavy for him to maneuver. He said the third time he fell with his body in an unnatural position, he was ready to give up. He said that he didn't know his knew could be in that position! He came home exhausted and went straight to bed. He did say that he would try it again, but maybe not with his scout leader, with us instead. Maybe he needed "real lessons" and he would've done better.
