About 30 minutes from our house, along side the Snake River, in the middle of several farms, is a lava rock ridge that had these "map rocks" from ancient Indians. Some say they are as old as 1,200 years, others say several 100 years. No matter how old they are, they are cool! Rachel was so excited to see them, as she just studied last spring Indian symbols. She acted as our interpreter. We invited Joel to come along with us, and the kids were thrilled to spend some time with him. They were also thrilled that he helped them catch some lizards. After reading my large book on Sacajawea, I was very interested in seeing these ancient carvings from a Shoshone band. It was very amazing that we still have them, and they were just right along the side of the road.
